Amphenol Spectra-Strip Announces Agreement to License

EYE OPENER +™ Conductor Technology from W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.

WALLINGFORD, Conn., March 18, 2003 -- The Spectra-Strip Division of Amphenol Corporation (NYSE: APH) reported today their agreement to license the EYE OPENER +™ conductor technology from W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., a leading supplier of InfiniBand™ cables and cable assemblies.

This development will enable longer usable copper lengths without the high frequency parasitics caused by board mount equalization components.”

The EYE OPENER + conductor technology provides cables and cable assemblies with the highest data rate, longest distance or smallest size of any equivalent cable construction. It utilizes a passive equalization conductor that modifies the frequency response within the cable. This improvement allows for 30% - 100% longer distances and smaller cable diameters at a specified data rate. When performance is critical and space is limited, the cable assemblies can provide up to 2.5 Gbps of data transmission at distances up to 30 meters. In addition, EYE OPENER + cables provide improved system reliability at data rates of 2.5 – 3.5 Gbps without experiencing high frequency parasitic effects from the RLC circuits.
